Discord Server Tag Not Showing Up? Every Reason and Fix

Every server tag problem looks the same from the outside: no tag next to your name. The causes underneath are different, and so are the fixes. Find the one that matches what you're seeing.

Your settings show no tags at all

You open User Settings, go to Profiles, scroll down to Server Tag, and the list is empty.

Usually this means none of the servers you're in have a tag unlocked. A tag is a paid perk. The owner has to spend 3 Server Boosts on it, and most servers never do.

To check, open the server you expect a tag from and look at the member list. If nobody there is wearing a tag, the server doesn't have one.

If you're certain the server does have one, confirm you're still a member rather than looking at an invite preview. Then quit Discord completely and reopen it. The tag list is cached and doesn't always refresh on its own.

You pick a tag and it won't save

Discord either shows "There was a problem updating your profile" or quietly drops you back to an unsaved state.

Start with the server's onboarding. If it uses rules screening, membership screening, or the onboarding questions, finish all of it. Users report this as the most common blocker, and the error message never mentions it.

If that wasn't it, switch platforms. Try mobile when desktop fails, and desktop when mobile fails. It works more often than it has any right to. After that, quit and reopen the client rather than refreshing. And check that you haven't left the server, because leaving takes the tag with it.

The tag disappeared on its own

You had it yesterday and changed nothing. Neither cause is your account.

The server may have dropped below 3 boosts. Perks aren't a one-time purchase; the boosts have to stay allocated to them. When a booster cancels and the server falls under the threshold, Discord disables the perk and strips the tag from everyone who was wearing it. Nobody gets a notification.

The other possibility is that an admin edited the tag. Changing the text, badge, or colour invalidates the old version, and every member has to open settings and apply it again by hand. Discord doesn't migrate anyone across. This hits a whole server at once, which is why it usually surfaces as "everyone lost the tag today".

Either way, go back to User Settings, Profiles, Server Tag. If the tag is still in the list, apply it again. If it isn't, the server lost the perk and nothing on your side will bring it back.

The tag shows old text or the wrong badge

Same cause as above: an admin changed it, and your profile still points at the previous version. Remove the tag with the X beside it, then pick it again from the list.

You're an admin and the perk won't enable

You have the boosts and the button still does nothing. Three things to check.

Your boosts may be allocated rather than available. Boosts spent on your server's Boost Level can't also pay for a perk, and you need 3 unallocated ones. Lower your level allocation in the Server Boosts tab to free them up.

You may be on mobile. Additional Perks can only be purchased and configured on desktop, and the option doesn't exist in the mobile app.

You may not be an owner or admin. Nobody else can see the Server Boosts tab at all.

The tag won't change again right after you changed it

Discord rate limits how often a server tag can be edited and doesn't publish the window. If an edit is refused shortly after a previous one, wait and try again later.

Quick reference

What you see What it actually is
Tag list empty No server you're in has the perk
Won't save Onboarding not finished, or client cache
Disappeared overnight Server lost boosts, or admin edited the tag
Shows old text Admin edited it, re-apply manually
Admin can't enable Boosts allocated to level, or on mobile
Can't edit again Rate limited, wait it out

One thing that isn't a bug

You can wear only one server tag at a time, however many tagged servers you're in. Picking a new one replaces the old one silently. That's how the feature is meant to work.

The directory lists every tag currently live, if you're looking for one to wear.
